The Nigerian Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the welfare of retirees, emphasizing the need for a supportive environment for a dignified post-retirement life. During the 2024 Pre-Retirement Training Programme in Gombe, Mr. Dasuki Arabi, Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reform (BPSR), highlighted ongoing initiatives to train retiring officers from federal parastatals.
Arabi announced plans for a national conference, potentially chaired by President Bola Tinubu, aimed at addressing pension issues and reforming the retirement system. He noted that the training programs are designed to equip retirees with essential knowledge for sustainable living after service, aligning with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He emphasized the importance of retirement planning, noting that many individuals face difficulties due to inadequate preparation. The annual training initiative has been institutionalized following positive feedback from previous editions.
