Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has officially launched the reconstruction of the 70-kilometer Abeokuta-Ifo-Ota-Lagos Expressway, a project initially proposed in 2019.
The reconstruction was delayed due to challenges in transferring responsibility from the Federal Government to the state. However, following an appeal to the Federal Government and subsequent approval from President Bola Tinubu, the project is set to begin.
Governor Abiodun announced that the reconstruction would be completed within 18 months, emphasizing the road’s significance for Ogun and Lagos States, as well as its importance for national and regional connectivity.
Five construction teams will work on different sections to expedite the process, with each team handling approximately 15 kilometers.
The project is expected to generate job opportunities and improve security and traffic conditions in the area. The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure highlighted the road’s critical role in easing motorists’ difficulties, while the Olu of Itori expressed relief over the long-awaited repair of the deteriorated road.
