Recently in port Harcourt the Ogwus Youth Empowerment and Community Development Organization (OYECDO) has reaffirmed its commitment to education and youth development through a landmark initiative at Community Secondary School, Rumurolu, Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.
As part of the program, the organization donated essential school supplies, including notebooks, pens, and other writing materials, to students. The initiative aims to bridge educational gaps, promote equal opportunities, and encourage academic excellence.
The event also featured the sponsorship of the school’s inter-house sports competition, with a trophy presented to the winners. The competition was chaired by Hon. Chief Godspower Okekem and had Mrs. Stella Onuah, Senior Director and Zonal Supervisor of the Obio/Akpor Zonal Board, as the guest of honor. Other distinguished dignitaries were also in attendance.
Expressing his appreciation, Mr. Tasie Harrison, Principal of Community Secondary School, Rumurolu, lauded the foundation for its impactful contributions. “Many appeals for such assistance had gone unanswered, but the foundation delivered beyond our hopes in a short time. I sincerely thank them and pray for continued blessings upon them,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the organization’s president, Dr. Joseph U. Eyong encouraged students to prioritize education, describing it as a pathway to success and a tool for shaping a brighter future.
Beyond its educational initiatives, Ogwus has made significant contributions across Rivers State, including solar electrification projects in communities such as Ahoada East and Ahoada West. The organization also supports elderly citizens, offers scholarships to deserving students, and fosters local sporting talent. Notably, it has facilitated football trials for young players with Rivers United, demonstrating its commitment to talent development.
The event concluded with a call for collaboration, urging well-meaning Nigerians to support Ogwus in its mission to build resilient communities and drive sustainable change.
