The Port Harcourt Refinery, recently rehabilitated with a $1.5 billion investment, has reportedly halted operations again less than a month after its re-commissioning. As of December 13, 2024, petrol lifting activities have ceased, according to a Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) member. However, there is hope that operations will resume by December 23, 2024.
Despite these claims, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has denied the shutdown, asserting that the refinery is fully operational. NNPC’s spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, dismissed reports of a closure as false, stating that preparations for loading operations were underway. He attributed the reports to attempts to create artificial scarcity and assured the public that the refinery was indeed operational.
