The House of Representatives’ Public Procurement Committee, led by Hon. Unyime Idem, has issued a stern warning to various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) regarding extra-budgetary expenses.
During an investigative hearing, Hon. Idem discovered that some MDAs were engaging in unauthorized spending practices.
He emphasized that such actions violate Sections 80 and 81 of the 1999 Constitution, which mandate that public funds can only be spent as prescribed by the National Assembly through the Appropriation Act.
The committee is prepared to impose sanctions on any MDAs found to be noncompliant, reinforcing its constitutional oversight role to ensure adherence to budgetary provisions.
