The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, urging him to reassess his reforms to better address the dire economic situation, particularly in Nigeria’s northern region. In a communiqué following their National Executive Council meeting in Kaduna, the ACF expressed concern that the administration’s economic strategies have intensified the hardships faced by many Nigerians, particularly those in the north, who are struggling with food insecurity, lack of education and skills, and reliance on microeconomic activities.
The forum highlighted that while economic reforms are necessary, they should not worsen the conditions of the citizens they are meant to help. It emphasized the region’s acute challenges, including food insecurity and a lack of education and training for the youth. The ACF warned that if these policies continue, they risk further impoverishing the very people they aim to support, potentially leaving them unable to benefit from any future improvements. The group had previously indicated its intention to support a Northern candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
