In Akwa Ibom State, four suspects were arrested for the theft of four fire trucks from the state’s Fire Service. The arrest followed credible information that the trucks had been stolen and transported to Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that the trucks had been leased out to multinational companies for N140,000 per day per truck, with a split of N80,000 for the leasing company and N60,000 for the Fire Service officials.

This arrangement, made in 2021, was supposed to end in 2024. However, the police intervened two months before the deal’s expiration and recovered the vehicles. The arrested suspects will face charges in court, and the trucks will be returned to the state government for use.

Additionally, the police made several other notable arrests, including two individuals involved in the vandalization of a transformer at Sure Foundation Polytechnic, and six suspects connected to the rape of a 13-year-old girl over three years. In another operation, a director from the Ministry of Justice, who had been kidnapped, was rescued from a forest hideout in Abak Local Government.
