Bobrisky, the convicted cross-dresser, has reportedly been kept outside the designated custodial center due to safety concerns linked to his gender identity. Bishop Kayode Williams, an inmates’ rights activist, explained that Bobrisky’s appearance as a woman might have put him at risk in a male prison environment, necessitating special arrangements for his accommodation in protective custody.
The situation has drawn scrutiny, leading to the suspension of two top officials from the Nigerian Correctional Service as part of an investigation into the matter. Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo emphasized that no officials would be shielded from accountability as the investigation unfolds, underscoring the government’s commitment to upholding inmates’ rights and ensuring proper conduct within the correctional system.
