Best selling author and former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Mr Reno Omokri, has described the report being peddled by Nigerian Army that the officials who were supposed to be monitoring the CCTV Surveillance at the Afaka barracks were asleep when the bandits attacked as nonsense.
Mr Reno, while reacting to the ‘national disgrace attack’ on his verified Facebook page, opined that such coincidence whereby the attackers could struck at the exact time when the officials were asleep is a possibility but, very unlikely on this particular event.
Armed Bandits had on the early hours of Tuesday, 24th August, 2021, invaded the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna, killing two Majors, Lieutenant Commodore Wulah and Flight Lieutenant Okoronwo, while several other people sustained serious degree of injuries.
The bandits, also abducted Major Stephen Dantong and have demanded a whopping sum of N200 million as ransom for his release.
The human rights activist, Reno Omokri, while imagining what Buhari could have said if it were to be during Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, stated that the likely scenario that played out is that the bandits has lots of sympathizers amongst the staff of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).
His post reads:
“Reports that officials of the Nigerian Defence Academy in charge of monitoring CCTV surveillance at the facility were sleeping when bandits attacked is hogwash. How will bandits attack at that exact time they were sleeping? That kind of coincidence is possible, but very, very, unlikely. It is more likely that the bandits have sympathisers amongst the staff of the NDA, in the same way that Boko Haram have infiltrated our military and government. I am still stunned at the audacity! Imagine what Buhari would have said had this happened under Jonathan.”
The menace of banditry has increased dramatically since the Buhari-led APC government. Their recent onslaught at an army facility is one of their boldest move. All efforts to stem the tide and stop the persistent security challenges in the country has proved a abortive.
