Newsie Events:- Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Obadiah Mailafia, was released by the Department of State Services (DSS) on Monday after he was grilled by the service.
He was released at about 2:55 pm.
Mailafia, who was last week invited by the DSS for the third time, had arrived at the Jos office of the secret police around 11 am.
He was accompanied by his wife, Margaret, his lawyer, Yakubu Bawa, some clergymen, among others.
The DSS had also earlier prevented hundreds of Mailafia’s supporters from gaining access into their facility.
The supporters had thronged the office to witness the interrogation of the former CBN deputy governor.
Mailafia’s third invitation by the DSS might not be unconnected with his recent claim that a northern governor was the leader of the Boko Haram terrorist group.
He made the claim during an interview on a radio station, Nigeria Info. The station was subsequently fined N5million by the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) for “unprofessional broadcast.”
Mailafia, who addressed his supporters after being released, condemned the latest DSS invitation.
According to him, the invitation was uncalled for, maintaining that the Southern Kaduna killings and the loss of lives in other parts of Nigeria must stop.
He said: “Thank you all for being here. Many have said the worst things and nobody invited them. I hope this will be the last time I will be invited to the DSS office. All that I am saying is that the killings must stop.”
