The Ekiti State government, led by Governor Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed concern over the rising issues of cultism and cybercrime in higher institutions, particularly at Ekiti State University (EKSU). Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting organized by the Nigeria Police Strategic Forum, Governor Oyebanji, represented by Brigadier Ebenezer Ogundana (rtd), emphasized the need for collaborative efforts in addressing these challenges.

He committed to supporting security operatives in their efforts to combat these issues and called on school administrators to enhance their security measures. The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Akinwale Adeniran, reinforced the idea that community safety is a shared responsibility and highlighted a new initiative aimed at improving the security environment for students and teachers across the state. This program, endorsed by the Inspector General of Police, aims to mitigate attacks on schools and improve overall safety in the educational sector.
