Former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, has refuted reports that he was kidnapped, clarifying that he voluntarily traveled to Abuja to report issues concerning Rivers State to security agencies.
Nwaeke’s clarification follows concerns raised by his wife, who had declared him missing and suggested he may have been coerced into making statements against Governor Sim Fubara.
In a video released this morning, Nwaeke confirmed that he was staying at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja and dismissed claims of abduction.
“My name is Frank Nwaeke, and I’m currently at Transcorp Hilton in Abuja. I arrived this morning from Port Harcourt to engage with security agencies regarding matters in Rivers State that have deeply troubled me,” he stated.
He further explained his recent resignation as Head of Service, citing his concerns about ongoing developments in the state.
Referring to his wife’s widely circulated video, he alleged that she had been misled into believing he was kidnapped.
“After my press interview, I saw a video of my wife being manipulated into making false claims about my whereabouts. I want to make it clear—I am safe, I have not been kidnapped. My wife does not have knowledge of my official duties; we only discuss personal and domestic matters,” he said.
Nwaeke emphasized that his decision to travel to Abuja was strategic, given that the nation’s security agencies are headquartered there.
“By tomorrow morning, I will proceed to meet with security agencies to formally report my concerns. I believe I am safest doing this here in Abuja,” he concluded.
