The Fulbe Development and Cultural Organisation (FUDECO) in Taraba State has submitted a petition to the state Commissioner of Police, David Iloyanomon, addressing the increasing violence in Karim-Lamido local government.
Chairperson Hajiya Aishatu Ardo, who signed the petition, expressed grave concerns about the negligence of security agencies in responding to attacks by the Gomu militia on local herder communities. She emphasized the need for a stronger, proactive security response, citing a lack of accountability for perpetrators as a significant factor in the ongoing violence.
Aishatu urged State Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas to take immediate action to prevent further unrest, including directing security forces to recover livestock reportedly stolen by the Gomu militias. She lamented the lack of arrests despite multiple warnings and reports to security agencies.
In a recent incident, at least five people, including a district head, were killed, with numerous herders still missing. Aishatu highlighted the slaughter of 107 cattle and the theft of hundreds of livestock, calling for a special investigative committee to address the underlying issues and develop lasting solutions.
