Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector- General Of Police has directed all Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police in charge of Zonal and State Commands nationwide to ensure a peaceful celebration during this yuletide season.
The directive was contained in a statement signed by Police spokesperson Mr. Frank Mbah on Thursday.
The IGP explained that to maintain law and order, there will be deployment of Strategic Officers on major highways, airports, railway stations, recreational centres, motor – parks, places of worship, financial institutions, amongst others so as to ensure adequate intelligence gathering.
He also said there should be 24-hour security arrangement and visibility patrols in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and in all states of the Federation during this festive period.
Mohammed advised Nigerians to “avoid night travels, over-speeding, over-loading, stopping on lonely highways and unnecessary flaunting of personal details/wealth on social media.”
On Covid-19, the IGP maintains that all hands must be on deck as the fight against Covid-19 is a collective responsibility.
He, therefore, implore Nigerians to take precautionary measures to reduce exposure to security risks and the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic and adhere to the COVID-19 prevention regulations.
