The Imo State Police Command has made significant arrests, including the apprehension of a suspected kidnapper and a man for the fatal stabbing of his father-in-law.
On January 16, 2025, the police paraded Ozioma Dike, a suspected kidnapper, following an intelligence-led operation by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit. The operation dismantled a kidnapping syndicate near Agwa in Oguta LGA. During a gunfire exchange between the police and the suspects, Dike was apprehended. Authorities recovered a pump-action rifle loaded with live ammunition and an iPhone belonging to a kidnapping victim from January 8, 2025, in Ubomiri, Mbaitoli LGA. Dike confessed to involvement in several kidnappings across the region. He remains in custody, with ongoing efforts to capture other gang members.
In a separate case, the same police unit arrested Uchenna Okpara, 40, for allegedly stabbing his father-in-law, Uchenna Unakalamba, to death on January 16, 2025, in Ubomiri, Mbaitoli LGA. The attack followed a minor dispute between the children of the two men. Okpara used a broken bottle in the assault, and the victim later died at the hospital. Okpara was arrested after police responded to a distress call, and investigations are ongoing.
Both suspects are in police custody and will face prosecution once investigations are concluded. The police reiterated their commitment to tackling kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state.
