Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organization, has urged South-West governors to strengthen security in response to the influx of bandits into the region.
The call follows an alarm raised by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who revealed that bandits displaced from northern Nigeria are relocating to parts of Oyo State. Afenifere emphasized the need for urgent action, calling for a regional meeting of South-West governors to strategize on expelling the bandits.
The group also recommended collaboration with security agencies, traditional rulers, and local vigilantes, as well as the use of modern technology and equipment to tackle the threat effectively. The statement underscored the importance of local leaders in identifying potential security risks and taking proactive measures.
