The Kwara State government has issued a warning against students loitering during school hours, after 20 students were apprehended on the streets of Ilorin. The Ministry of Education emphasized the importance of students focusing on their education to fulfill their parents’ aspirations. The state’s Commissioner for Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, also urged parents to stay actively involved in their children’s education to ensure their success.
In a separate incident, the government expressed concerns over student unrest at two schools—Government Day Secondary School and Government High School, Adeta. The unrest, stemming from long-standing conflicts between the schools, prompted the commissioner to visit the institutions, where she reprimanded the students for their behavior and the school management for not promptly addressing the issues. Hajia Kawu reiterated the government’s commitment to improving education in the state, encouraging students to adopt positive attitudes and focus on their academic goals.
Both school principals praised the administration’s efforts to improve education but requested assistance with reconstructing their school’s perimeter fence to prevent further incidents. The students involved in the unrest expressed remorse and promised not to repeat such behavior.
