The emergence of a new terrorist group, LAKURAWAS, in Sokoto State has raised serious security concerns. The group, described as faith-based and idealistic, is reportedly equipped with sophisticated weapons and is involved in criminal activities across at least five local government areas in the state. This comes amidst ongoing banditry in the region, exacerbating the security challenges.
Sokoto’s Deputy Governor, Idris Gobir, made this revelation during a visit from participants of the National Defence College, emphasizing the expanding threat and the collaborative efforts between the state and federal security agencies to combat it. Gobir expressed hope that the ongoing study tour by defense experts would provide valuable insights to help tackle the growing insecurity and ensure peace and safety for the state’s residents.
