In a crucial meeting held at house of chiefs, Secretariat Ibadan Oyo state capital, involving the chairmen of the 33 Local Governments in the state, relevant government MDAs, banks, the Park Management System (PMS), and commercial transport unions, security chiefs emphasized the balance between citizens’ rights to peaceful protests and the government’s duty to protect lives and property.
The State Commissioner of Police, Ayodele Sonubi, represented by DCP Akinade Adejobi, assured that while peaceful protests are protected under the law, any form of violence or disruption would not be tolerated.
He urged protesters to avoid vandalism and criminal activities, stressing that law enforcement would be deployed to maintain order.
The Chairman of ALGON Oyo State, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, expressed commitment to public peace and safety. The Oyo State Director of the Department of State Security, Mr. Tajudeen Adeogun, and other security officials, including CP Sunday Odukoya (rtd) and Col. Olayinka Olayanju (rtd), also urged youths and all residents to engage in lawful, peaceful protests to preserve the state’s tranquility.
