The Niger State Government has issued a warning to locals, urging them to stay away from areas suspected to be planted with landmines in Shiroro Local Government Area. This advisory comes in response to growing security threats posed by terrorists, who are believed to have planted explosives in the region. The government emphasized the need for caution, particularly for farmers in the Bassa area, and called for the restriction of movement until the military can complete clearing the affected zones.

Bello Abdullahi, the Commissioner for Homeland Security, highlighted the urgency of the situation, citing intelligence reports that terrorists are increasingly using landmines as part of their attacks. The concern followed a deadly explosion on December 19, 2024, when three bombs went off in the Bassa community, killing three people and injuring five others. The government is taking this precautionary measure to prevent further casualties until the military ensures the safety of the area.
