Troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have successfully raided a notorious bandit camp in Taraba State.

In a statement released on Monday, the army confirmed that one bandit was killed during the operation, while several weapons were recovered.

The raid took place on February 2 in Angwan Bala, within the Kambari area of Karim Lamido Local Government Area, following credible intelligence about bandit movements.

Acting on this information, the troops launched a patrol to the identified hideout.

Upon spotting the soldiers, the bandits opened fire, triggering a fierce exchange. In the battle, one bandit was neutralized, while 23 others—comprising 19 men and four women—surrendered without further resistance.

A thorough search of the camp led to the recovery of a substantial weapons cache, including four AK-47 rifles, five AK-47 magazines, 80 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, an English-made pistol, two locally made guns, 28 cutlasses, 16 motorcycles, and 48 daggers and jackknives.

Initial investigations revealed that the bandits, originally from Plateau State, had paid ₦1.5 million to a local chief in Amar village to establish their base in the area.

Brigade Commander Kingsley Uwa reiterated the army’s commitment to maintaining security and stability in Taraba and its surrounding environs.
