Ladi Adebutu, the 2023 governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, has been arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) over allegations related to the state’s recent local government elections. He is accused of bringing 40 officers from Lagos’ MOPOL 49 unit to Ogun on election day and using PDP supporters, some armed and riding motorcycles, to attempt to disrupt the electoral process in Ikenne local government area.
The PDP’s publicity secretary, Kayode Adebayo, confirmed the arrest, stating that despite efforts to secure Adebutu’s release, he remained in detention as of late Monday night. Adebayo added that the charges against Adebutu were still unknown. He called for calm among party members and supporters, emphasizing that the situation was part of the challenges faced in a democratic system.
