The Plateau House of Assembly has urged the state government to direct Operation Rainbow, the local security force, to set up outposts at interstate boundaries.
This request, made during a plenary session led by Speaker Gabriel Dewan, aims to address increasing insecurity by establishing a visible security presence to deter criminal activities such as smuggling, human trafficking, kidnapping, and banditry.
The legislators believe that these outposts would facilitate quicker emergency responses, enhance the protection of local economies, and ensure safer trade routes.
They emphasize the need for legislation to improve security, in line with constitutional mandates for government to provide security and welfare.
They also recommend using intelligence to identify critical boundary locations in various Local Government Areas (LGAs) and ensuring proper resource allocation and infrastructure for these outposts, with regular reviews to assess their effectiveness.
