The Nigeria Police have intensified their efforts to rescue 20 abducted medical students and one house officer from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos. Deployed helicopters are aiding the search along the Otukpo-Enugu Highway, with ongoing surveillance of the area and neighboring local government areas. Despite these efforts, there has been no breakthrough yet.
The Benue State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police CP Yabanet, has relocated to Benue South to oversee the operation.
A ransom demand of N50 million by the kidnappers was made public, but the police have not confirmed this. Families, including the father of one student, Kwaghaondo Aondona Kingsley, are urging for the students’ immediate release and seeking government assistance, citing financial difficulties in meeting the ransom.
