The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Emeka Nwonyi, has said that the police officer, who killed an engineer and father of three, Alafuro Peterside, will soon be arraigned in court.
Recall that Peterside was allegedly shot dead by an operative attached to the Police Mobile Force, 43 Squadron, in Gombe State on the August 14, 2023 at a popular bar along Stadium Road in Port Harcourt.
But Nwonyi, while responding to questions by our correspondent, disclosed that the policeman whose identity was not disclosed had been dismissed and the matter charged to court.
He stated, “The suspect who happens to be a police officer has been dismissed and the case charged to court. That is the development.”
Meanwhile, some residents of the state have called on the police commissioner to name and show the photo of the dismissed police officer who committed the said offence.
The residents spoke on Nigeria Info FM, Port Harcourt; a popular radio station in the state on Wednesday and monitored by our correspondent.
They explained that ensuring transparency and accountability on such issues would help build trust between the Police Force and the communities they serve.
