Dr. Felix Idongesit Oyosoro, a university lecturer and respected scholar, faces ongoing threats to his life after assisting police in the arrest of kidnappers linked to a violent raid on Obong University in Akwa Ibom in 2018. Following the incident, where armed assailants abducted students and attacked staff quarters, Dr. Oyosoro provided critical information to law enforcement, resulting in the capture of several suspects.
Despite relocating to Abuja in 2021 to escape threats from the kidnappers’ associates, Dr. Oyosoro’s situation worsened. In December 2023, armed attackers raided his residential area, resulting in one death and multiple abductions, underscoring the persistent danger he faces. The trauma has severely affected his health and family, leading him to seek asylum abroad.
The Nigerian police have acknowledged the seriousness of the threats against him and are investigating, but the criminals remain at large. The academic community has rallied in support, urging the government to enhance protections for individuals who cooperate with law enforcement.
