There’s a serious back-and-forth happening between the Kano State Government and the Nigeria Police over the intelligence report concerning a potential terrorist threat.
The police raised the alarm about a possible attack on public gatherings, urging people to avoid crowded places.
However, the state government strongly disagreed, calling the police’s warning a “false alarm” aimed at disrupting the National Tijjaniyya Maulud religious event, which has been held peacefully for decades.
The state government also emphasized that there had been no actual security threat and criticized the police for potentially infringing on religious freedoms by interfering with the event.
The government is calling on the federal authorities to step in and ensure that the religious gathering goes on without hindrance.
The situation highlights tensions between ensuring public safety and respecting the rights to religious and public gatherings, especially when there is a clash between different security agencies and authorities. Do you think the police acted out of caution, or was this more about politics and control over the event?
