Hon. Unyime Idem, Chairman of the House Committee on Public Procurement, has continued his commitment to education by sponsoring another group of students from Akwa Ibom to Coventry University, UK. This initiative aligns with his campaign promise to train 100 Akwa Ibomites abroad for self-sufficiency and value addition to the state.
In a recent post on Facebook, Idem announced the departure of three students for an all-expense-paid Master’s program. The beneficiaries are:
- Abasiyianga-owo John Obot (Oil and Gas Management)
- Edikan Saturday Michael (International Business Management)
- Precious John Ekong (Molecular Biology)
During a send-off ceremony at his office in Abuja, Idem provided each student with one million naira as additional support. He emphasized the importance of their roles as ambassadors for Akwa Ibom and Nigeria, urging them to take their studies seriously.
Idem stated, “Everything you need for your comfort in the UK has been provided. I expect you to study diligently and represent us well.” He encouraged them to take advantage of part-time work opportunities and to return home equipped to help others.
The students expressed their gratitude and commitment to making their sponsor, the state, and the country proud. They are set to depart for the UK on Friday.
