NUT oyo state concludes successful 2nd edition of Quiz competition for public secondary schools.

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Oyo State has successfully concluded its 2nd edition of the quiz competition for public secondary schools, held on October 3, 2024, at the Teachers’ House in Oluyole Estate, Ibadan. This event was part of the celebrations for World Teachers’ Day, which is observed on October 5.

In his address, Comrade (Alh) Raji Oladimeji Ismail, the state chairman of NUT, expressed his delight in addressing the distinguished attendees. He highlighted the significance of the event, noting its historical importance in advancing the educational standards in Oyo State. Ismail emphasized that the quiz competition was a collaborative initiative aimed at supporting the governor’s educational policies, fostering talent discovery, and nurturing future leaders.

The competition unfolded in several stages, starting with local government contests on September 23, followed by zonal and divisional stages, culminating in the finals. Ismail acknowledged the generous financial support from key donors, including Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, and commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his commitment to enhancing educational standards.

Comrade Adesina Aderemi, the newly elected president of ANCORPSS, pledged ongoing collaboration with NUT to promote academic initiatives in the state. He congratulated the NUT chairman for his efforts in organizing the competition, which he believes encourages students to prioritize their studies.

Chief Dotun Sanusi (Jagun Olubadan) praised the NUT for its innovative approach to engage students and expressed his dedication to furthering academic progress in Oyo State. He called upon parents and teachers to work together to raise responsible citizens.

Other notable speakers included the TESCOM chairman, Pastor Akinade Alamu, and the executive chairman of SUBEB, Dr. Nureni Adeniran, who reiterated the importance of such initiatives in motivating students.

In the quiz competition, Methodist Grammar School, Igboora, secured third place with 16 points, winning ₦50,000. Igbohomore Community Grammar School, Igboho, took second place with 18 points and received ₦75,000, while Bishop Philip Academy, Ibadan, emerged as the winner with 22 points and a cash prize of ₦100,000. All participating schools received medals and other gifts as recognition of their efforts.

The event concluded with group photographs and acknowledgments for major stakeholders of the NUT, marking a successful celebration of academic excellence in Oyo State.
