The University of Calabar has reported to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 2023 that 178 unqualified graduates had been fraudulently mobilized for national service.
The university has highlighted that these individuals were not legitimately mobilized by them, as their names did not appear in any official university records or lists submitted to NYSC.
The issue came to light when the university discovered an individual on national service who had not graduated. An investigation revealed 178 cases of infiltration, leading to the suspension of a Data Entry Officer who is now under investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC). The university’s management has cooperated with NYSC and other agencies to address the problem, urging further action to apprehend those responsible.
The university commended NYSC for releasing the names of 93 of the 178 fraudulent entries and has continued to work with security agencies to resolve the matter.
