The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is set to increase the monthly stipend for corps members from N33,000 to N77,000, according to a statement from the Director-General, Brig. Gen. Yushau Ahmed Dogara. The announcement was made during his visit to the temporary orientation camp in Kaduna on December 16, 2024. This increase is expected to take effect soon, once the necessary administrative processes and cash backing are completed.

Brig. Gen. Dogara also reiterated the NYSC’s zero-tolerance policy toward indiscipline and protests, emphasizing that corps members are expected to follow the scheme’s bylaws, which prohibit such actions. He noted that several corps members had recently faced disciplinary measures for attempting to protest.

Additionally, Dogara highlighted the safety concerns of corps members, especially regarding night travels, which have led to accidents and even kidnappings. He urged corps members to avoid such dangerous trips to ensure their safety.

The doubling of the allowance comes after the government’s approval and is part of ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of corps members, which remains a key priority for the NYSC leadership.
