Earlier today, members of the Law Students Association of Nigeria (LSAN), Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District from the University of Uyo, paid a courtesy visit to my residence in Uyo. During the visit, I took the opportunity to encourage them to remain studious, focused, and dedicated to the learning process. I also urged them to practice law and uphold the profession’s sanctity.
I shared my concern with the students, highlighting that some of them, after completing their studies, abandon the noble law profession in favor of other ventures, often motivated by immediate financial gains, which do not carry the same prestige as practicing law. I emphasized the importance of staying the course, noting that law is a noble profession with deep societal value.
While I encouraged them to maintain their commitment to law, I also mentioned that it is not inherently wrong to explore other fields, such as public service, if they choose. Contributing to society in various capacities is crucial for the nation’s development.
The delegation, led by the National President, Comrade Joseph Boaz, and the Secretary, Comrade Godsfavour Marcus, expressed their gratitude for my advice. They promised to be great ambassadors of both the Senatorial District and the legal profession.
A highlight of the visit was the presentation of the “Lawmaker of the Year” award to me, an honor bestowed by the law students. They described my representation as impactful, citing numerous empowerment programs for youths, women, the physically challenged, and support for the elderly. According to them, I have “redefined effective representation and have stood out as an epitome of people-centered leadership.”
