SSANU, NASU threat to initiate indefinite strike due to outstanding salaries.

The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) has threatened to initiate an indefinite strike due to outstanding salaries.

In a statement from leaders Mohammed Ibrahim and Prince Peters Adeyemi, they issued a three-week ultimatum to the Federal Government to address their demands, which include the payment of four months of withheld salaries, improved remuneration, and adherence to a 2009 agreement.

The previous 10-day grace period for the government to respond expired on July 26, 2024. The unions warn that if their demands are not met by the new deadline starting September 17, they will shut down universities and inter-university centers. They have criticized the government for failing to act during an earlier six-week ultimatum.
