The Nigerian Government on Sunday, October 19, through its minister for information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said protest against the operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) have been hijacked by enemies of the government so as to obstruct the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The minister also noted that protest has been hijacked by hoodlums with ulterior motive because it was absurd that protesters were still on the road causing nuisance even after their demands have been met.
These were his words:
“When you look at the demands of the #EndSARS and the decisions of the Federal Government, it is clear that there is no single demand of the group that has not been met.
“Therefore, one will begin to ask if there is an ulterior motive because what we have witnessed in the last few days is that they have moved their demands from five to seven.”
The minister said it is worrisome how protesters have moved from their five demand of asking for Sars to End to reduction in electricity tariff, national assembly salaries, and allowances among other things.
Then you begin to ask yourself what exactly is the motive of the protests and who are those behind them.” The minister said.
It would be recalled that Lai Mohammed, Nigeria minister for information and culture on Saturday, October 17, when he featured on a late-night Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) news programme, “Weekend File.” stated categorically that the Federal government would not allow the country to be thrown into anarchy following the violence that has trailed the #EndSARS protests.
