A former aide to Ex-Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri has written to the British Prime minister, Boris Johnson, asking for his intervention in the yet to commenced plans of the Nigerian Army’s Operation Crocodile Smile.
Omokri, who made this known via a post on his Facebook page opined that the real reason behind the sudden Army’s plan for an operation was to deal decisively with peaceful #EndSars protesters.
Recall that Nigerian youths had thronged the street to protest against the notorious unit of the Nigerian police codenamed SARS, Special Anti Robbery Squad which has killed, maimed, harassed, extorted, and intimidated Nigerian youths. Many families have lost their loved ones in the hands of SARS.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian police force has disbanded the notorious squad hoping that the protests would stop, but the youths continue to grow in their numbers and have already tendered their demands to the government which include the release of all arrested protesters, justice for all deceased victims of police brutality, and appropriate compensation for their families.
They also want increased salaries for police officers as well as the establishment of an independent body to oversee the investigation and prosecution of all reports of police misconduct.
Moreover, they made it known that they will not vacate the street until the implementation of their demands.
The best selling author, therefore, urged Prime Minister Johnson to intercede before it will be too late. He reminded the Prime Minister of the horrible acts of the Nigerian Army Chief, Buratai who he claimed killed 347 unarmed Shiite men and women and infants on 12th December 2015.
See his full letter below;
Dear Prime Minister Boris Johnson,
Greetings sir. When I met you during my #FreeLeahSharibu world tour, you told me how much you value Nigerian lives. Nigeria’s Army has suddenly reactivated Operation Crocodile Smile, which is a ruse to fatally deal with peaceful #EndSARS protesters, who have been demonstrating over the disappearance, extrajudicial killings, maiming, and harassment of thousands of Nigerians, mainly young people. Please, as a humanitarian, and head of a responsible member of the international community, do intervene before it is too late. Recall that on December 12, 2015, this same army chief killed 347 unarmed Shiite men, women, children, and infants. Please don’t let him do the same to unarmed protesters.
Your’s most respectfully,
Reno Omokri.
