Carnival Media Limited, a distinguished online radio house based in Airport, Alakia, Ibadan, marked its first anniversary with a grand celebration at the NUJ Veterans Hall, Iyaganku Quarters, Ibadan, on February 27, 2025. The event attracted esteemed dignitaries, veteran journalists, and representatives from various media organization

In his welcome address, the founder of Carnival Media Limited, Alhaji Kamoru Ademola Bakare, expressed profound appreciation for the role of journalists in nation-building. He emphasized that, despite their significant contributions in informing, educating, and entertaining the public, journalists often face neglect from the government at all levels. Instead of receiving due recognition, he noted, they are frequently subjected to persecution and criticism, particularly by elements within society who oppose accountability.

Reflecting on the challenges of establishing and sustaining Carnival Media Limited amidst Nigeria’s economic difficulties, Alhaji Bakare commended the dedication of his team, led by the pioneer General Manager, Mr. Adejare Bamidele. Their collective efforts, he noted, have propelled the station to notable success, earning it recognition as one of the most-listened-to internet radio stations by Primus Media Awards in 2024.

As part of his advocacy for media development, Alhaji Bakare urged the federal government, particularly the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to prioritize the issuance of private broadcast licenses to eligible Nigerians. He stressed the importance of easing regulatory barriers to encourage investment and innovation in the media sector.

Chairman of the occasion, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Oyeyemi Oyediran Adesoye, lauded journalists for their indispensable role in society, describing them as allies of law enforcement in disseminating critical information. AIG Oyeyemi, who also serves as the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Force Cooperative Multipurpose Society Ltd, praised Alhaji Bakare’s commitment to supporting veteran journalists, acknowledging the significance of such humanitarian gestures.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, Alhaji Ademola Babalola, highlighted Alhaji Bakare’s longstanding support for journalists. He recounted how the Carnival Media founder had, in previous years, extended welfare donations to Muslim journalists observing Ramadan fasting, as well as financial assistance to veteran journalists in need. He called on other successful journalists and media practitioners to emulate this spirit of giving back.

Chief Banji Ogundele, Chairman of the Veteran Journalists Association in Oyo State, also commended Alhaji Bakare’s generosity. He noted that many retired journalists struggle financially, as journalism does not offer pension benefits, making external support crucial for their well-being. He further advocated for improved working conditions in the growing number of radio stations in Oyo State, emphasizing the need for proper training and fair remuneration for reporters.

The anniversary event also featured a keynote lecture by guest speaker Mr. Oluwafisan Bankale, titled “Security Issues in Nigeria: A Panoramic View.” He emphasized that security is a collective responsibility and not solely the duty of law enforcement agencies. Given the increasing insecurity across the country, particularly in the northern regions, he urged citizens to actively contribute to safety measures in their communities.

Alhaji Kamoru Bakare’s impressive career in journalism spans over two decades, both within Nigeria and internationally. His journey began in 1992 at the defunct Sketch Press Limited, Ibadan, where he progressed from a newstaker to the founding editor of the widely read Hotel & Tourism section of Daily Sketch. His passion for journalism ultimately led to the establishment of Carnival Media Limited.

In celebration of its first anniversary, Carnival Media Limited presented cash donations worth millions of naira to over 15 veteran journalists in Oyo State, reaffirming its commitment to media excellence and social responsibility.

The event concluded with heartfelt gratitude from beneficiaries and attendees, marking a significant milestone in the history of Carnival Media Limited and reinforcing the importance of supporting those who have dedicated their lives to the profession. Beneficiaries smiles home with a hundred thousand naria cash support to mark the first anniversary of the carnival media limited.
