The Federal Government has been called on by the Nigeria Medical Association, Federal Capital Territory Chapter to provide comprehensive life insurance for doctors and other health personnel as the second wave of COVID-19 infection increases.
Dr. Enema Amodu, the chairman of NMA FCT in a statement on Sunday in Abuja said that while doctors and other health workers were being paid abysmally low hazard allowance, there were not enough Personal Protective Equipment for health workers in the frontline.
He said, “Over the last few days I have received several calls and messages on the 20 doctors that died across the country from coronavirus within a week.
“The fact remains that doctors and other health workers are being paid abysmally low hazard allowance and there are not enough PPE’s available to doctors and other health workers in the frontline.
“There should be a comprehensive life insurance in place for doctors and other health personnel that risk their lives in the line of duty.
“Isolation centres should be properly equipped with drugs and personnel to manage cases as they come.”
The FCT NMA boss urged the government to act immediately “to protect us while we discharge our duties.”
