The Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory Administration (ARD FCTA), has begun a three-day warning strike in Abuja to protest unpaid salaries, allowances, and poor working conditions.
The strike follows the expiration of a three-week ultimatum issued by the doctors in 2024, during which their demands were not met. Dr. George Ebong, the President of ARD FCTA, stated that doctors are being neglected, with some going unpaid for up to six months, leading to a shortage of medical staff as many have resigned or moved abroad.
The strike, which affects hospitals across Abuja, including Wuse, Asokoro, and Kubwa, also highlights the deterioration of medical facilities, outdated equipment, and overcrowded hospitals.
Doctors are calling for urgent action from the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, to address the situation, warning that failure to meet their demands may lead to an indefinite strike.
