Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, announced the immediate dismissal of all management staff at two government-owned hospitals: Edo Specialist Hospital and Stella Obasanjo Hospital in Benin City. In addition, Okpebholo dissolved the governing councils of all state-owned tertiary institutions, including Ambrose Alli University (AAU) in Ekpoma.

A statement from the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Umar Ikhilor, conveyed that the dissolution of the governing councils and the disengagement of hospital management staff were effective immediately. The affected members of the governing councils and hospital management staff were instructed to hand over all government properties in their possession to the senior officials at their respective institutions.

This move follows a recommendation made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) transition committee on November 11, 2024, which had advised the review of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the hospitals and the previous administration.
