The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has raised serious concerns about the escalating violence against health workers and volunteers in conflict zones across Nigeria. Omoruyi Daniel Edobor, ICRC’s First Aid and Pre-hospital Care Field Officer, highlighted the alarming trend of attacks on healthcare professionals, particularly in the northeast, where many have been killed or injured while providing critical assistance.

Edobor emphasized the need for safe passage for healthcare personnel, as outlined in various international conventions, noting that armed groups often deliberately target these workers during their efforts to help survivors. He made these comments during a workshop in Calabar focused on first aid techniques and emergency response.

The ICRC also urged media practitioners to stay informed about international best practices in first aid to enhance their ability to respond to emergencies effectively. Participants received training in various first aid methods and patient evacuation techniques to ensure timely medical care for accident victims.
