The Rivers State Government has confirmed two cases of Mpox, also known as monkeypox, within the state. Dr. Adaeze Oreh, the Commissioner for Health, announced the news at a Port Harcourt press conference.
She stated that the Public Health Emergency Operations Centre is on high alert and that medical teams have been deployed to address emergencies in healthcare facilities.
The state has implemented an incident plan and mobilized resources to identify and manage all Mpox cases. Additionally, ad hoc staff have been trained to handle the infection effectively at various healthcare levels. Mpox is spread through close contact and can also be transmitted via contaminated surfaces.
