The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi, has condemned the seizure of three presidential aircraft currently in France for routine maintenance. According to Fagbemi, these aircraft are sovereign assets used solely for governmental purposes and should be immune from seizure.
This position comes in response to an interim attachment order issued by the Judicial Court of Paris, following a claim by Zhongshan Industrial Investment Company Limited, a Chinese firm seeking to enforce an arbitral award against the Ogun State government.
Fagbemi emphasized that while the dispute originated with Ogun State, the enforcement actions targeting federal assets are contrary to international principles governing sovereign immunity. Both legal and diplomatic measures are being pursued to address and resolve the situation.
