Nigerian Man Arrested in Colombia for Alleged Drug Trafficking Operations

Newsie Events:

Colombian authorities, working with the FBI, have arrested Joseph Chinedu Okparaejesi, also known as Alen, a Nigerian national suspected of leading a transnational drug trafficking ring.

He was detained at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá on March 12, 2025, after arriving from São Paulo, Brazil.

Okparaejesi, who had lived in Colombia for over 12 years, allegedly posed as a beauty industry businessman while coordinating large-scale cocaine shipments to Spain.

Investigators revealed he funded drug procurement and managed smuggling operations using human couriers and specially modified suitcases.

His arrest followed intelligence from a detained drug mule bound for Spain, who exposed details of Okparaejesi’s network.

This breakthrough also led to the capture of 15 other individuals connected to his operations.

Further investigations show Okparaejesi married a Colombian woman in 2012 and operated a hair extension business called “Nigeria African” near Ciudad de Cali Avenue.

According to a close associate, he rarely left Colombia, visiting Africa approximately every two years, with his most recent trip being to Ghana.

The Colombian National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (INPEC) confirmed his detention, with formal charges of drug trafficking, production, and distribution filed against him.
