Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and several senior party figures have officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressive congress APC.

According to his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori’s decision followed extensive consultations with local political stakeholders and was driven by what he described as “Delta’s long‑term interests.” The announcement came after a private meeting at the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday.

At a subsequent press briefing, chaired by Senator Ebiowou Manager alongside Delta’s Commissioner for Information, Aniagwu Charles, the group explained that their defection is intended to strengthen collaboration with fellow Deltans, bolster security and welfare programs, and ensure uninterrupted development across the state. Charles likened their move to changing “drinking patterns” when the quality of the “palm wine” has shifted, emphasizing that the transition was “unanimously” agreed upon by the party’s leaders.

Charles added that the official declaration of their defection will be made public next Monday, when they will deliver a “significant statement” formalizing their entry into the APC.
