Newsie Events:–
First lady Aisha Buhari on Saturday returned to social media days after coming under heavy criticism for illegally jailing her critic, Aminu Adamu Muhammed.
Mrs Buhari, on her Facebook page, posted a video in celebration of Morocco’s 1-0 quarterfinal victory over Portugal in the ongoing World Cup in Qatar.
Before Saturday, Mrs Buhari posted last on her Facebook page on November 18, while remaining silent althrough the period Mr Muhammed was illegally detained.
A student of Federal University Dutse, Mr Muhammed was abducted by the State Security Service (SSS) for criticising the first lady as ‘feeding fat’ from the public treasury.
The student critic was later secretly arraigned and remanded in prison by Nigerian police.
He was, however, released on December 3, almost three weeks after his incarceration, as Nigerians knocked Mrs Buhari’s tyrannical behaviour.
In the heat of Mr Muhammed’s detention, rights group Amnesty International berated Mrs Buhari and the SSS, while calling for his immediate release.
Condemning Mr Muhammed’s detention, human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong in a tweet said; “It is petty, ridiculous and unconstitutional for the SSS to arrest a citizen for “mocking” the wife of the President on social media.
“Nigeria is not Iran, North Korea or China. We’ll not tolerate such reckless abuse of power. Anyone related to the young man should reach out,” Mr Effiong added.
