Senator Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, has reached out to Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State amid the ongoing political tension with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike. Akpabio encouraged Fubara to prioritize unity and collaboration with lawmakers aligned with Wike, particularly those led by Honourable Martins Amaewhule.
He emphasized that with the resources available in Rivers State, a governor should not find themselves in prolonged conflict with their House of Assembly without successfully winning over at least one member from the opposing faction. Akpabio also urged the abandonment of a “culture of betrayal” in politics, which he believes hinders effective governance and the sustainability of policies.
He reflected on the importance of political cooperation, stating that the success of governance depends on smooth transitions and the avoidance of personal or political vendettas. Akpabio’s message, conveyed through Channels TV, highlights his belief that unity is essential for long-term success in both leadership and governance.
