Abak LGA, Akwa Ibom state is currently boiling over the uncertainty decision of the speaker of the state Assembly Mr Udeme Otong and the managing director of Akwa Ibom property investment cooperation Barr. Patrick Udomfang determined to impose a 75 year old retired director and wife of a popular APC chieftain as PDP chairmanshp candidate in Abak LGA.
Condemning the purported imposition of non-sellable candidate by the speaker and his co-worker the youth and supporters vow to resist the decision of the speaker against all odds.
‘We say no to candidate imposition by the speaker’, ‘We need due process in Abak LGA, let all the aspirants go to the field and test their popularity”
‘Don’t destroy the party legacy for your 3rd term ambition in 2027, ‘We need free and fair primaries as we say no to politics of blindness, ‘Don’t make 2027 difficult for PDP in Abak LGA and Ikot ekpene senatorial district at large.
In a statement made available to newsmen, the group appeals passionately to the executive governor of Akwa Ibom state Pastor Umoh Eno, to urgently intervene and stop the calculated attempt by self-styled leader of the party using impunity to install wife of APC chieftain as PDP Chairmanship candidate in Abak LGA
The statement reads: “We the above concerned PDP and card-carrying members of the party in Abak LGA have watched with nostalgia and utter bewilderment of the speaker Mr Udeme Otong the plot to impose on us a non-sellable candidate emanated from the All progressive congress on PDP in the forth coming LG elections.
“It is to our chagrin that the power that be, have concluded plans to carry out this satanic act plan which in our opinion would spell outright doom for our dear party and may it interest his excellency to note that the culture of impunity which led our party into losing the last national assembly and almost lost to governorship and house of assembly election in 2023 is about to be reenacted in Abak LGA.
“Primary is the only means with which any candidates could emerge for elections, thus making the process to be transparent without rancor as the loser knows he will lost at the battlefield and congratulate the winner. The merit inherent in using primaries need not to be overemphasized for any reason as it is there for all discerning eyes to see.
“It is therefore in the light of the foregoing that we were shocked beyond words to learn that the Mr speaker have concluded plans to install an unsellable candidate who is not even a member of our party nor even known to anybody on us in the forthcoming chairmanship election.
While appealing to the state governor Pastor Umoh Eno to urgently intervene, the group said, “we made bold your Excellency to ask all aspirants to go to the field as all other local governments in the state are doing, it will be anti-democratic to impose a candidate on us and the local government in the coming election.
“They held that the party by this action is sitting on a ‘Keg of gun powder because the act is laughable and will out rightly spell doom for our dear party the PDP in 2027 general election as mass defection would erupt should the alleged plot is successful and the local government would never survive the fall for the second times to our main opposition who’s agent is brought to play their cards
“Midim clan are appealing to the leaders of our party, with all matter of seriousness to conduct opened primaries were the best candidate should emerge and not by imposition of un-preferred candidates from another party, because that is the right thing to do to avoid mass defection and tsunami of the party in the near future; listen to the voice of the people if really the party motto is power to the people” it warned.
The Aspirants went round to consult stakeholders but will be so disappointed in the process if they are not allowed to be nominated because of a selfish act of few.
According to them, the name of governor Umoh Eno will be written in gold as a leader if he can use his good office to ensure primaries are conducted as against the impunity of imposition of the assembly speaker.
Moreover it would further compound the woes of the party if the candidates are imposed. A stitch in time saves nine, the group said.
