Anambra South Stakeholders Demand Urgent By-Election to Replace Late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah

Newsie Events:

Political stakeholders in Anambra South Senatorial Zone have raised concerns over worsening infrastructure and lack of representation following the passing of their senator, Ifeanyi Ubah, eight months ago.

At a press conference in Awka on Monday, the Coalition of Anambra South Progressives lamented the absence of a representative in the National Assembly, emphasizing that it has left the zone without a voice in key governance decisions.

Speaking on behalf of the coalition, leader Mr. Obi Chukwuemeka urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a by-election within two months to fill the vacant seat.

The group also called on political parties to zone their candidates for the by-election to Nnewi North Local Government Area, where the late senator hailed from, to ensure fairness.

The coalition highlighted the impact of the leadership vacuum, pointing out that without a senator, Anambra South has missed out on constituency allowances and other federal benefits.

They stressed that with the 2025 budget already passed and preparations for the 2026 budget set to begin in the second quarter of the year, the zone cannot afford further delays.

Calling on major political parties, including APGA, APC, PDP, and LP, the group urged them to see the by-election as an opportunity for selfless service by fielding a candidate from Nnewi North to uphold justice and equity.
