The Anambra State House of Assembly has amended the State Electoral Law for the third time this year, reducing the tenure of Local Government Chairmen and Councillors to two years.

This change, effective September 12, 2024, is aimed at addressing potential gaps in the local government system and ensuring clarity.

The new law, Anambra State Electoral Law No 3, 2024, will apply to the upcoming local government elections scheduled for September 28, 2024. The amendment includes a new provision dissolving the local government council after a two-year term from inauguration.
