The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC have sounded a strict warning to politicians and citizens of Edo State that anyone caught buying votes during the Edo and Ondo governorship elections will be arrested and prosecuted.
INEC national commissioner, Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC) Festus Okoye, in a one-day sensitization forum held for journalists in Benin on Thursday, August, 20 disclosed that there would be security personnel at each voting centre to ensure strict implementation of the directive.
“We will work closely with security agencies to arrest threats and degrade acts of violence,”
Okoye, therefore, urged all stakeholders to go about their activities in a manner that would not jeopardise the conduct of the elections.
He also assured Nigerians that they are working relentlessly to have a free and fair election in Edo and Ondo State.
